The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which operates to save the Britain's small concert spaces.

He was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was named the top album of the past year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to worthy causes.

In they earned the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would give their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer she divided her prize across multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," the artist told the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People donated their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning touched another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had saved two local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
