Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
